Big Sur Foragers Festival
A Culinary Exploration into the World of Wild Foods
A celebration of the amazing array of wild foods will be the centerpiece for a weekend of gourmet food, world-class wine and beer, entertainment, expert-led foraging hikes and a chef competition.
On January 11th and 12th Big Sur area restaurants will host the culinary expertise of notable chefs preparing unique fare from rustic to elegant, paired with the region’s amazing selection of wines and beers. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the Big Sur Health Center.
This is a  foraging  event to  benefit Big Sur Health Center, a non-profit community health center- 100% of proceeds will go to the health center to support the continued presence of local health care services.

Special whale watching tour of Point Sur Lightstation. Enjoy a special afternoon of whale watching at Point Sur State Historic Park. After an abbreviated tour to the Lighthouse, visitors will have plenty of time at the top of the rock to watch the migrating whales, picnic and relax in one of the most beautiful places in California.Timed to make the most of the annual Gray whale migration, these special interpretive tours will be led by trained docents with special interest in whales.

Balmy evenings make this the perfect time to take a moonlit tour of the Point Sur lighthouse. On the night of the full moon, docents lead a 2-1/2 to 3 hour tour of this navigational landmark. Blue and Humpback whales return to the Big Sur/Monterey area to feed on abundant krill. See the largest mammals on earth from roadside turnouts throughout the summer months.

August

Get away before the kids return to school. Park Rangers host a weekly Jr. Ranger program and there is a daily campfire program for the family to enjoy.

CALLING ALL KIDS! Are you Ranger material? Kids between the ages of 7 and 12 are invited to join us for Junior Rangers, an hour of games, crafts, and fun designed to help you learn about our State Parks and our natural and cultural environment. Junior Rangers meets every day except Sunday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Campfire Center in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.
Kids only!

And for the younger crowd...Join us for Ranger Cubs! Kids 7 and under--and their moms, dads, and other friends and family--are invited to meet at the Campfire Center at 11:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursdays and Saturday for a half-hour of stories, crafts, and outdoor fun.

Big Sur enjoys some of its best weather in this month. The skies are bright blue as the moderate temperatures keep the fog at bay and the forest becomes alive with color as the leaves of the deciduous trees turn. Monarch butterflies return to their annual wintering grounds at Andrew Molera State Park and can be seen flying all around Big Sur.

33rd Big Sur River Run

(831) 624-4112 "The most beautiful 10k in the world!" Held annually in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. All flat, black-top road loop alongside the Big Sur River through redwood and oak groves. The 10k Run and 5k Walk benefit the Big Sur Health Center and the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade.
